Five-Year Strategic Plan
2006 - 2010
  1. UNIFY ELMORE COUNTY FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

    1. Assemble a 1000 acre mega site for targeted industry.
    2. Create a “One-Stop Shop” for Elmore County to assist new and expanding businesses.
    3. Establish a spec building for industrial recruitment.
    4. Host regular meetings among all elected officials to address countywide Economic Development issues.

  2. BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT

    1. Recruit targeted new high technology business & industry in the following key industrial sectors:
      Aerospace
      Company Headquarters
      Automotive Equipment Manufacturing
      Distribution Centers
      Medical Equipment Manufacturing
    2. Promote the development of a new technology business park and new industrial parks.
    3. Serve as an advocate for Elmore County business and industry before local, regional and state government agencies.
    4. Research, develop and maintain a comprehensive directory of existing industrial, business and office space available for lease and/or sale in Elmore County.

  3. RETAIL DEVELOPMENT

    1. Implement an aggressive targeted recruiting effort to persuade retail developers of the opportunities in Elmore County.
    2. Establish a Small Business Council in connection with a local Alabama university.
    3. Establish an “Elmore County Clean & Beautiful” program to establish and enforce trash ordinances.
    4. Establish Gateway Welcome Centers at each of the major accesses into Elmore County.

  4. TOURISM / RECREATION

    1. Establish the Elmore County Tourism Council.
    2. Establish a tourism website promoting county tourism venues and providing links to tourism opportunities.
    3. Establish a countywide recreation system, promoting outdoor sporting venues.
    4. Promote the Development of an Elmore County Trail System that links Elmore County with the statewide trail system.

  5. TRANSPORTATION / INFRASTRUCTURE

    1. Establish the Elmore County Transportation Alliance to inform Elmore County residents on transportation priorities in the county.
    2. Promote immediate expansion of SR 14 to four lanes between Millbrook and Tallassee.
    3. Help facilitate the development of the northern loop connecting all major communities.
    4. Promote the consolidation of the area’s water boards into a countywide water system.
    5. Encourage the extension of the county’s sewer system.

  6. EDUCATION

    1. Encourage stronger community support and more involvement in public education.
    2. Educate the public on the importance of a good public education system for sustainable economic development.
    3. Host an annual Education Summit among all the education leaders in the county.
