A team from Wetumpka High School is one of eight that will advance to a national robotics competition following Saturday's South's BEST Regional Robotics Championship.
The Wetumpka team was among 61 competing for an opportunity to head to the BEST national championship, which will be in April at the ESPN Zone Complex in Orlando. It is the only local school team to advance to the national competition.
Saturday's competition took place at Auburn University in the Beard-Eaves Coliseum.
The robotics and engineering competition focuses on hands-on, problem-solving activities. Organizers said the competition means students must work together and use critical thinking skills.
