Tallassee just got a little sweeter.
Sweet treats from Daylight Donuts are coming to Tallassee later this year.
Mayor George McCain broke the news last week and it gained an overwhelmingly positive response from locals.
“It’s a credible national franchise and we’re proud to have that,” McCain said. “This adds to the amenities in town. We have more to offer.”
Currently, there are two Daylight Donuts stores in the Auburn/Opelika area. McCain said the stores’ owner, Bill Springer, was looking to expand his horizons and reached out to Tallassee.
“I’ve been talking to him for three or four months,” McCain said. “But I didn’t find out until Jan. 4. As soon as (Springer) finds a place, he can move in a get going.”
Springer said he would open tomorrow if he could.
“Realistically, I’d say we’re looking at opening in March,” Springer said.
The opening date depends on how long it takes them to find a place to set up shop, according to Springer, who added he is looking to probably locate in the downtown historic area.
For the Tallassee store, Springer said all doughnuts will be made at the main location in Auburn and shipped to Tallassee the same day.
“The doughnuts are going to be as fresh as the ones made in our main store,” Springer said.
The store will also serve Daylight Donuts’ specialty drinks, including espresso and iced coffee, and sausage rolls.
While the location and start-date of Tallassee’s newest business has yet to be determined, McCain said this is exactly what the city needs as far as bringing in businesses.
“We are in the process to bring in as much retail business and the future looks very very bright,” McCain said.
