The Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA) recently hosted a Unity Breakfast. The on-going events are designed to bring business, community, education, and elected leaders together to establish and enhance relations in Elmore County. The guest speaker for the event was Business Council of Alabama (BCA) Executive Director, Bill Canary.
In giving an overview of the BCA, Canary said the organization represents 750,000 Alabamians. Canary went on to say the BCA represents all 124 Chambers of Commerce in the state, making Alabama unique in that it is the only state in the nation able to make that claim. With this enormous membership, the BCA is considered THE voice of business in Alabama.
Canary said the BCA exists to advocate on behalf of businesses whose owners, like those in Elmore County, “sign the front of a paycheck so others can sign the back,” Canary’s addressed focused on encouraging attendees to continue unity efforts.
Specifically, he encouraged the concept of uniting education and business sectors to together to improve the state’s schools, especially in the areas of fully funding and supporting pre-K education and treating teachers as true professionals.
The Unity Breakfast had Mayors, City Councils, County Commissioners, Board of Education, Business and Chamber, and State Legislative representatives in attendance. ECEDA has scheduled the next meeting, a Unity Luncheon, March 3. A representative of the Ries Crater Museum in Germany will be the guest speaker.
