More than 150 people gathered at the Whitewater Ridge Clubhouse in Wetumpka Thursday evening for the Summer Unity Social hosted by the Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA). Attendees spent time networking with other community, business and government leaders. They also had an opportunity to meet District 2 Congresswoman Martha Roby, who spoke briefly.
“The two most important issues in Congress right now are jobs and the economy,” said Roby.
She also noted that her job is to be “available and accountable to you because we work for you.”
Many of those present said they were glad for the chance to meet informally with their peers from across Elmore County.
“I think this is a wonderful networking opportunity,” said Jimmy Monk of Wetumpka. “In today’s fast-paced society, we sometimes don’t get to see people face-to-face as often as we should. Also, it was an honor for me to get to shake the hand of the person I voted for last year.”
Lee Greer, ECEDA board chairman said he was pleased.
“I think we have a great crowd,” he said. “And it’s wonderful to bring the county together like this with people from all the municipalities.”
“This is a great way to accentuate the venues available in the county -- I had never been here before,” said Millbrook’s Dan Dan nen mueller. “It’s also great to get together with people from all around the area. I appreciate the ECEDA staff setting this up.”
Price Publications Inc. (The Wetumpka Herald, The Eclectic Observer and The Tallassee Tribune) was the title sponsor for the social. Corporate sponsors were ASE Credit Union and Alagasco.
ECEDA initiated its Unity events in January 2010 and such gatherings are held quarterly.
