Business Spotlight: Coosa River Adventures
For nearly 30 years, Coosa River Adventures has helped residents and visitors experience the Coosa River while supporting tourism in Elmore County.
Owner Chris Carter traces the beginning of the business back to a fishing trip in a canoe on the Coosa River on January 1, 1992. What started as a day on the water eventually became the foundation for a business that has introduced thousands of people to one of the areaโs most popular outdoor destinations.
โThe heart behind it was the beauty of the 7-mile stretch of river, the fishing, the wildlife and recreation, then wanting to provide opportunity for others to experience what I experienced on New Yearโs Day 1992,โ Carter said.
Since opening in 1995, Coosa River Adventures has grown into a destination for families, friends, church groups, school groups, and visitors looking to spend time on the water.
Today, the business offers more than 300 boats, including sit-on-top kayaks, canoes, stand-up paddle boards, and pedal-drive kayaks. Staff members provide the equipment, transportation, and guidance needed to help guests enjoy a day on the river.
Most trips last three to four hours and take paddlers along a scenic stretch of the Coosa River known for its natural beauty, wildlife, and recreational opportunities.
Over the years, Coosa River Adventures has become more than an outdoor recreation business. It has also helped introduce visitors to Elmore County and encouraged them to explore the areaโs restaurants, shops, and attractions.
When asked what he hopes people remember most about the business, Carter pointed to the experiences shared along the river.
โA feeling of family and the opportunity to make memories. Natural beauty with the excitement of experiencing the rapids giving an anchor to tourism in Elmore County,โ Carter said.
As Coosa River Adventures approaches three decades in business, its mission remains much the same as it was when Carter first paddled the river more than 30 years ago: helping others experience the Coosa River and create memories of their own.
