17 Springs Update: Poised to Become Alabama’s Premier Sports and Outdoor Destination

Friday April 11, 2025

ELMORE COUNTY – 17 Springs is on a clear path to becoming the top recreational and outdoor tourism venue in the state of Alabama, serving as a catalyst for “next-level” sports and event experiences across Central Alabama. With event bookings already extending into 2026 and 2027, the future of 17 Springs is bright and bustling.

Since the opening of Phase I in 2023, 17 Springs has hosted numerous soccer, tennis, and pickleball tournaments, attracting athletes and visitors from all over the region. Many more events are scheduled over the next several years, with the Grandview YMCA continuing to oversee event scheduling and coordination.

To support the growing operations, the 17 Springs Steering Committee has welcomed two key hires: Justin Jones as Director of Operations and Steve Blackwell as Facilities Manager. Their leadership will be instrumental as we move into the next stages of development and expansion.

Additionally, the Marketplace at 17 Springs is progressing rapidly. The 20-acre commercial development is nearly pad-ready, with construction expected to begin soon. Discussions are ongoing with developers, retailers, restaurants, and hotel operators. Nearly every parcel is already under contract or letter of intent, signaling strong market confidence and interest in the project. Baumhower’s will be a marquee restaurant and dining venue prominently located at the main entrance of the Marketplace section of 17S Marketplace on Hwy 14.

A newly commissioned feasibility study will help further outline the vision and strategic planning for the complex, but early projections indicate a significant economic impact for the county over the next decade.
