Elmore County’s Economic Momentum: Growth, Investment, and Impact Across the Region
Wednesday, June 11, 2025
Elmore County is experiencing a wave of transformative growth, thanks to strategic planning, impactful partnerships, and the tireless work of the Elmore County Economic Development Authority (ECEDA). From quality-of-life (QOL) initiatives and record business expansions to major event partnerships and downtown revitalizations, the county’s story is one of momentum—and it’s time to tell it loud and proud.
Quality of Life Projects Fueling Regional Pride
From Wetumpka, Eclectic, Tallassee, Prattville, Holtville, and Millbrook, quality-of-life projects are underway in every corner of Elmore County. These initiatives are enhancing the daily lives of residents and creating environments that attract both new families and new businesses. Parks, recreational investments, and beautification efforts are boosting civic pride and laying the foundation for long-term prosperity. One such project includes a major boat ramp renovation in the Eclectic area at Kowaliga, which will improve access to Lake Martin and further support outdoor recreation and tourism in the region.
A Phoenix Rises in Elmore
One of the county’s most visible redevelopment victories is the transformation of the old Russell Building into the fully leased Phoenix Building—a powerful symbol of Elmore County’s commitment to revitalization and smart reuse. This landmark project has not only preserved a piece of local history but turned it into a thriving commercial asset.
Massive Space, Massive Opportunity
Two major companies have recently committed to over 500,000 square feet of space, a testament to the region’s attractiveness for industrial and logistical investment. These expansions are creating jobs, filling space, and fueling auxiliary business growth throughout the county.
Downtown Revivals in Eclectic and Tallassee
The heart of our smaller communities is beating stronger than ever. Eclectic and Tallassee are experiencing a surge of new business openings in their downtown corridors, bringing commerce and renewed community energy. The Tallassee Industrial Development Board has welcomed a record five new projects in the past year alone and secured a historic amount of grant funding through SEEDS development programs.
The Power of Place: Wetumpka’s Growth Boom
The nearby Wetumpka Sportsplex has become a regional destination for tournaments and events, anchoring the growth of the River Town Center, where construction of new businesses is not far away from breaking ground.
Events with Impact: Sports Tourism as a Growth Engine
Millbrook continues to shine with the success of 17 Springs, its marketplace, restaurants, and new hotels, which are adding vibrancy and drawing visitors from all over the country. ECEDA has leaned into sports tourism as a high-yield economic driver. Elmore County is proud to serve as the title sponsor for the Alabama Open golf tournament at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, now entering its third year under a PGA partnership. A new three-year agreement is currently being negotiated to keep this prestigious event in the county, bringing professional golfers, fans, and tourism dollars year after year.
In addition to golf, ECEDA has secured four new major fishing tournaments, each bringing significant overnight stays, local spending, and regional exposure.
Telling Our Story, On Our Terms
ECEDA is committed to elevating the county’s profile and celebrating the strategic partnerships, investments, and community wins that are truly moving the region forward.
“We’re proud of where we are, but even more excited about where we’re going,” said Lisa Van Wagner, ECEDA Executive Director. “Our team, partners, and community leaders are writing a powerful new chapter for Elmore County, and it’s time to start telling that story boldly.”
