From gallery walls to community stages, Elmore Countyโ€™s growing arts and culture scene is doing more than showcasing local talent, itโ€™s improving our quality of life.

Cultural spaces like The Kelly Fitzpatrick Center for the Arts and the Art Town Makers Gallery in Wetumpka, along with The Art Mill, Millbrook Community Players in Millbrook, and Wetumpka Depot, provide places for residents to connect, learn new skills, and experience live performances without leaving the county.

Beyond traditional galleries and theaters, Elmore Countyโ€™s public art is turning city streets and buildings into open-air exhibits. Colorful murals can be found across Wetumpka, Millbrook, and Eclectic, transforming blank walls into works of art that celebrate local history, creativity, and community spirit. The vibrant โ€œTogether We Canโ€ mural project in downtown Wetumpka, for example, draws visitors and photographers year-round, adding energy and charm to the cityโ€™s revitalized downtown district.

Local leaders say the benefits go beyond entertainment. Access to the arts has been shown to strengthen communities, increase community engagement, and make areas more appealing for families and businesses.

โ€œArts and culture are essential to creating diverse communities where people want to live, work, and stay,โ€ said Art Faulkner, Board Chairman for ECEDA. โ€œThey build connections and contribute to a higher quality of life for everyone.โ€

The Kelly anchors downtown Wetumpka with rotating exhibits and events that draw visitors, while Art Town Makers Gallery offers opportunities for local artists to sell their work. The Art Mill hosts community classes and exhibits, and the Millbrook Community Players and the Wetumpka Depot bring live theater to the stage with seasonal productions.

Together, these cultural hubs, along with the countyโ€™s growing collection of murals, contribute to Elmore Countyโ€™s identity, fostering community pride and offering residents meaningful ways to spend their time close to home.

โ€œArts make a community vibrant,โ€ said Faulkner. โ€œWhen people feel connected, everything from economic growth to public health improves.โ€
