Business Spotlight: Wadsworth Christmas Tree Farm

For many families, a trip to Wadsworth Christmas Tree Farm is more than checking “buy a Christmas tree” off the holiday list. It is a tradition that brings people together, creates lasting memories, and introduces visitors to everything Elmore County has to offer.

Each holiday season, owner Frank Wadsworth welcomes families from across Alabama and neighboring states. Some visitors even travel from Florida while spending Thanksgiving with relatives in Elmore County, making a stop at the farm part of their annual tradition.

“They come up here for Thanksgiving to visit family, and before they head back, they stop by and get a tree from us,” Wadsworth said. “It has become a tradition.”

Those visits do more than support the farm. They also benefit local restaurants, shops and attractions as families spend time exploring the community.

“We always try to promote Elmore County,” Wadsworth said. “People ask where a good place is to eat or what there is to do, and we point them to downtown Wetumpka, Fort Toulouse and other places around the county.”

The farm also gives visitors, especially children, a chance to learn where Christmas trees come from and the work that goes into growing them.

“A lot of people think you can plant a Christmas tree and sell it next year,” Wadsworth said. “They do not realize it takes five or six years to grow one.”

That education begins with school field trips, where students tour the farm, ride wagons and learn about Christmas tree farming. Many return later with their families to choose and cut down their own tree.

“A lot of families come back and say their child came here on a field trip,” Wadsworth said. “The kids grow up coming here, and then they bring their own children.”

For Wadsworth, creating those memories is what the farm is all about.

“You can buy a tree somewhere and take it home, but here it’s about the experience,” he said. “You come out to the country, find the perfect tree and make priceless memories.”

Each Christmas season also helps support the future of the farm. Revenue is reinvested into planting new trees, maintaining the property and preparing for the next generation of visitors.

Wadsworth believes supporting local farms and family-owned businesses helps strengthen the entire community.

“Whether it’s a tomato grower, a fish grower or a Christmas tree grower, support the farms and support local,” he said.

For more than 50 years, Wadsworth Christmas Tree Farm has been creating traditions while welcoming visitors to Elmore County. Through agritourism, education and a genuine love for the community, the farm continues to showcase the experiences that make Elmore County special.
