Elmore County is home to some of the most dedicated and courageous law enforcement professionals who work tirelessly to protect and serve. From the city streets to the rural backroads, the men and women of our local police departments go above and beyond to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. In this special section, we honor the work of all the police departments in Elmore County.

Wetumpka Police Department

Under the leadership of Chief Ed Reeves, the Wetumpka Police Department ensures the safety of Wetumpka’s residents and visitors. With a focus on community-oriented policing, Wetumpka officers build strong relationships with the people they serve. Whether it’s handling emergencies, providing crime prevention programs, or working with schools, the Wetumpka Police Department plays a vital role in maintaining peace in the city. Their community outreach and youth programs have earned them a reputation for being proactive in reducing crime and promoting safety.

Tallassee Police Department

The Tallassee Police Department, led by Chief Todd Buce, is another pillar of law enforcement in Elmore County. The department strives to create a safe environment for the citizens of Tallassee while maintaining the trust of the community. Whether responding to calls, investigating criminal activity, or assisting in public safety education, the officers of Tallassee serve with integrity and professionalism. They work hand-in-hand with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to address concerns and foster a strong sense of security throughout the city.

Eclectic Police Department

Led by Chief Robert Head, the Eclectic Police Department serves the small town of Eclectic with the same dedication and commitment as the larger cities in the county. The department focuses on keeping crime rates low and supporting the growth of Eclectic while maintaining a small-town atmosphere. Officers engage with residents on a personal level, often participating in community events, providing safety tips, and offering a reassuring presence in the town.

Millbrook Police Department

The Millbrook Police Department, under the leadership of Chief P.K. Johnson, serves the growing city of Millbrook with an emphasis on proactive policing and community engagement. As one of the fastest-growing cities in Elmore County, Millbrook requires law enforcement professionals who can meet the challenges of a dynamic community. The Millbrook Police Department plays a key role in maintaining public safety, providing crime prevention programs, and working with local schools and businesses to create a safe, thriving environment. Their efforts in ensuring the safety of the city’s residents are crucial as Millbrook continues to grow and evolve.

Elmore County Sheriff’s Department

Since 1867, the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office has been a pillar of safety and service, providing trusted law enforcement across more than 625 square miles of central Alabama. With a growing population of over 85,000 residents, the agency plays a vital role in keeping both rural and suburban communities secure.

The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for primary law enforcement in unincorporated areas of the county, while also supporting local municipalities as needed. Its work is carried out through five key divisions: Patrol, Investigations, Court Services, Support Services, and Jail Operations, each one essential to the daily mission of upholding justice and protecting the public.

At the heart of the department is Sheriff Bill Franklin, a third-generation law enforcement officer and proud Elmore County native. Serving as Sheriff since 1991, Franklin brings a deep personal legacy to the role—his family collectively representing 88 years of service in law enforcement. Under his leadership, the Sheriff’s Office has remained deeply committed to professional standards, community engagement, and responsive service.

One of the most significant strengths of law enforcement in Elmore County is the way the various departments work together. Whether responding to large-scale emergencies, conducting joint investigations, or ensuring public safety during community events, the police departments of Wetumpka, Tallassee, Millbrook, and Eclectic frequently collaborate to make the county a safer place.

These dedicated officers are not just protecting us—they are also our community heroes. From their selfless service to their unwavering commitment, they go above and beyond every day to make Elmore County a great place to live. Their passion for keeping us safe is evident in everything they do, and we are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals serving our communities.

To all the officers, deputies, and support staff in Elmore County, thank you. Your courage, compassion, and hard work do not go unnoticed. You are the heart and soul of our community, and we are grateful for all you do. You are our true community heroes.
