Elmore County continues to see the benefits of long-term investments in quality of life, recreation and economic development.
County, municipal, school and economic development leaders met Wednesday to discuss projects taking shape across Elmore County and how those investments are strengthening communities while supporting continued economic growth.
From recreation centers and parks to athletic facilities, boat ramps and community gathering spaces, leaders said these projects are creating places where residents can enjoy a higher quality of life while also attracting visitors from across the region.
“Everything that we do should emphasize maintaining or improving the overall quality of life for our citizens,” said Elmore County Economic Development Authority Chairman Art Faulkner.
Elmore County Public Schools Superintendent Richard Dennis said the county’s investment in athletic facilities also benefits students by providing quality venues for competition while bringing tournaments, schools from across the region into Elmore County. Those events create opportunities that extend beyond athletics by supporting local businesses and showcasing communities across the county.
Leaders also discussed the importance of measuring the economic impact of these investments. Through event data, visitor tracking and economic analysis, county leaders can better understand where visitors are coming from, how facilities are being used and how spending at local businesses moves through the local economy.
Faulkner said quality-of-life investments provide benefits that extend well beyond the facilities themselves.
“Visitors are the ones paying for much of what you are seeing because they are coming to Elmore County to use these assets,” Faulkner said. “At the same time, our citizens are using those same facilities, and it is improving their quality of life.”
Projects such as 17 Springs and the Wetumpka Sports Complex were highlighted as examples of investments that serve residents while attracting tournaments, outdoor recreation and other events that generate additional economic activity. Leaders also noted that smaller projects across the county play an equally important role in strengthening local communities and improving everyday quality of life.
Elmore County Commission Chairman Bart Mercer said these investments are designed to serve both current and future generations.
“These projects are not just for the short term,” Mercer said. “They are for future generations to enjoy and prosper from. If they are properly maintained, they will continue benefiting the entire county, not only through quality of life but also through our economy.”
By continuing to invest in quality of life, county leaders said Elmore County is creating amenities that support families today while strengthening the county’s long-term economic future. Together, these investments help attract new opportunities, support local businesses and preserve the character that makes Elmore County a place where people want to live, work and visit.
